What is IGBC?
The Indian Green Building Council, formed in 2001, is a part of the Confederation of Indian Industry(CII). It aims to provide a sustainable built environment for all and facilitate India to be one of the global leaders in a sustainable built environment by 2025.
The council is committee-based, member-driven, and consensus-focused. The construction industry stakeholder comprises architects, developers, product manufacturers, corporate, government, academia, and nodal agencies participating in the council activities through local chapters. They also work closely with State Government, Central Government, World Green Building Council, Bilateral multi-lateral agencies in Promoting the Green Building concept.
IGBC Offers:
A wide range of services includes developing a new green building rating programme, certification services, and green building training programme. The council also looks into organizing Green Building Congress, its annual flagship event on green building.
What is the Green Building Movement in
India?
Green Building defines as” one which uses less water, optimizes energy efficiency, conserves natural resources, generate less waste, and provide healthier spaces for occupants, as compared to a conventional building.”
The GBM was triggered in India by CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre Building in Hyderabad as it won the first and prestigious Platinum rated Green Building rating in India. Since then, the Green Building Movement gained spur momentum over the year.
The Green Building project comes up with over 7.8 billion sq ft starting from 20,000 sq ft from 2003. Around 2,252 Green Building projects are certified and fully functional in India.
The growth has only been possible with the help of the active participation of stakeholders. There is no type of buildings that are going green. Be it Government IT park, offices, residential, banks, airports, convention centres, schools, SEZ’s, etc.
Grandthum project is the first-ever project by Group, having attained the highest level of pre-certification “Platinum”, entitling it to a Global leadership recognition. It is an IT/ITES project located in Greater Noida West.
Being the “Largest Mixed-use IGBC Platinum Precertified” project in Delhi-NCR, it will surely take the development of Greater Noida West miles ahead.
